Savannah Guides invites you to our next Savannah Guides School, based at Chillagoe, approximately 219km west of Cairns.
This four day workshop will focus on Chillagoe’s incredible surroundings which will give us insights into many geological, ecological and astronomical concepts.
Local field trips will explore the magnificent Chillagoe Limestone Caves, with an option for adventure caving. Our location on the edge of the ancient Australian continent will have us investigating the region’s geology. A rich mining heritage is now preserved and we’ll visit new restoration projects. Chillagoe has its own private observatory and we’ll explore the heavens and look at how guides can use astronomy on tour. Meet Traditional Owners, a magnificent Ford Museum and lots more!
Who are Savannah Guides?
Savannah Guides Limited is a non-profit member based organisation. Our network of professional tour guides and operators works with its partners to train “Protectors and Interpreters of the Outback”. Savannah Guides Limited began in 1988 and has won numerous tourism awards for training and tourism services. Our activities aim to build sustainable tourism for regional community benefit, expand career opportunities for Tour Guides and enhance visitor experiences. Our members include accredited guides and enterprises as well as “Friends” who assist in our Mission or just have a good time with like-minded people. Please ask about Savannah Guides membership.
What is a Savannah Guides School?
A Savannah Guides “School” is not a course with a qualification for completion. It’s simply our organisation’s name for its professional development conferences. These are held at various locations across the Tropical Savannahs of Northern Australia twice each year. They are a part of our Tour Guide accreditation process, although most attendees come for the combination of knowledge and skill sharing, networking with ecotourism and community leaders and simply enjoying a fascinating part of the country in a little more detail.
Who can attend?
Members and non-members are very welcome. The School will be a great opportunity for any Tour Guide, tourism industry member, community representative or nature lover to gain a real insight into quality tourism operation. Our participants will include tourism businesses, tour guides, environmental specialists, traditional owners, local government representatives and land managers. The professional development opportunity provided at these Schools is unparalleled and the renowned Savannah Guides camaraderie is often the basis for valuable ongoing business and personal relationships. Join us and build your links with Savannah Guides.
