NAW is a national program of events seeking to promote the importance of protecting Australia’s unique archaeological heritage, and increase public awareness of Australian archaeology and the work of Australian archaeologists both at home and abroad. Like National Science Week, National Archaeology Week is a great opportunity for the Museum to build its profile and prestige while engaging the public with the amazing stories embodied in our collections.
The 2013 program consisted of 4 ‘Meet the [Archaeology] Curator Talks’ on different topics exploring different parts of the QM collections by Dr Asmussen and a guest presentation by Nicholas Hadnutt, and a ‘Feature Presentation’ Our Story Your Story Talk on Mephisto by the Senior Curator of Queensland Stories Michael Westaway.
This program went ahead with the support of Nick Hadnutt (Acting Head, Cultural Environments Program) and Rebekah Collins (Learning Spaces Manager), Discovery Centre Staff. All talks were advertised on the QM webpage, National Archaeology Week Webpage and the Australian Archaeological Association Webpage and QM Facebook page. Thank you all for supporting these events.
Stay tuned for NAW in 2014 !
