Community groups can now apply for funding for events as part of the 2014 Queensland Week celebrations.
Premier Campbell Newman today opened the 2014 Queensland Week Sponsorship Program.
“I’m now inviting applications for events to be held during Queensland Week in 2014 that celebrate the uniqueness, heritage and aspirations of communities across Queensland,” Mr Newman said.
“Queensland Week is a special time for all Queenslanders to reflect on our people, places and achievements.
“We are a large, diverse state and this program will help Queensland communities to celebrate in their own way.
“The 2014 Queensland Week Sponsorship Program is open to community groups and organisations which host events during Queensland Week 2014, from 31 May to 8 June.
“I call on all Queensland communities to get together and plan their best celebration of Queensland.
“This could be a barbecue, concert or festival, street parade or indeed anything that celebrates what is special to that community.”
Sponsorship funding of up to $8,000 for a limited number of events is available, with successful applicants forming part of the Queensland Government’s 2014 Queensland Week celebrations.
The Queensland Government financially supported 13 diverse events statewide being held this week as part of the 2013 Queensland Week celebrations.
The 13 Queensland Week events this year included an indigenous music showcase in Brisbane, a concert in Mackay, a music festival at Point Cartwright, a theatrical production staged between Mackay and Cairns, and a community picnic at Surfers Paradise.
The program guidelines can be downloaded at www.queenslandweek.qld.gov.au or phone 07 3405 5215 for more information. Applications close Friday 30 August 2013.
