Cafes Scientifique: Craft Cocktail Science Masterclasses

Curious about the finer details of your poison of preference? Care to learn how to create your own award-winning cocktail? How do you feel about liquid nitrogen, aromatic fogs and sustainability in cuisine? Come join microbiologist and cocktail creative Andrew Cameron (host of National Science Week’s Closing Night 2012 at The Queensland Museum) and his team at Brisbane’s favourite speak-easy, The Walrus Club, for an in-depth session on the more innovative aspects of cocktail design.

Guests will be taken on an educational journey that stimulates all the senses, covering the foundations of fermentation and distillation, through to cocktail history, presentation & design, flavour psychology & pairing, and molecular tricks you can do at home.

This is a session not to miss. Seats are limited to 20 people per night, and includes a cocktail on arrival, and tasters throughout the sessions. Sessions are also free, courtesy of Angostura Rum and Island2Island, so get in fast!

About the Presenters  

Andrew Cameron – recently completed his Bachelor of Technology Innovation, majoring in Microbiology and graduating with First Class Honours. Over the past year he has spoken at The Edge’s Mad Scientist Tea Party, sat on a Culinary Think Tank with Harvard scientists at The Australian Gastronomy Symposium, hosted last year’s launch of Café Scientifique and has been interviewed & published in Amazon’s #1 cocktail e-book, “Craft Cocktails at Home” by Kevin Liu.

Nick Royds – is a pilot, a gastronome and a mad scientist at heart…amongst many other things. He was a national finalist for the Gentleman’s category for World Class Cocktail competition and has spent several years in the UK as a cocktail training specialist. He is currently delving deep into all things molecular, and enjoys playing with new techniques to generate unique sensations.

Krystal Hart – is commander-in-chief at The Walrus Club. With a strong theatre background as a trainer & performer at Zen Zen Zo, she is not only able to design an incredible drink with a great story, she takes presentations to the next level. With countless successes in cocktail competitions, her current focus is creating new engaging experiences for our patrons.

 Rob Scott – hospitality veteran, jack-of-all-trades and lover of all things suited for a pensioner. Rob brings a cheeky charm to everything he does, including his drink design. Not afraid of playing with untraditional flavours, he is currently enjoying developing bizarre drinks that draw on cocktail history.
