Trialling and Choosing Alternative & Augmentative Communication Devices
This workshop will equip clinicians with the knowledge of AAC devices for working with clients. We will cover purpose-built AAC systems, as well as discussing mainstream technology options, such as mobile devices. Considerations for assessing the suitability of both purpose-built and mainstream technology based AAC systems will be discussed. The selection and trial process for AAC systems will be highlighted. Alternative access options will also be covered throughout the workshop. Participants will leave the workshop with; an understanding of the principles concerning the prescription of AAC systems for adults, an understanding of purpose-built and mainstream technology based AAC options, hands-on experience of at least 3 different AAC systems, and useful resources and tips.
