Details: Quatuor pour la fin du temps, (Quartet for the End of Time) was premiered in 1941. The piece was written by Messiaen in a concentration camp in Gorlitz during the Second World War. Messiaen was taken to Germany as a prisoner of war in 1940, where hunger and intense cold gave the French composer vivid dreams that evoked the Apocalypse. His composition was premiered in 1941 at the concentration camp to the prisoners and guards.
