Over 75 people participated, 28 ideas were pitched and eight teams formed during the Gold Coast Startup Weekend organised by Silicon Lakes from 15 to 17 November.
Local startup community organisation Silicon Lakes is proud to have held the second Startup Weekend Gold Coast event this past weekend at the Robina Community Centre with the support of City of Gold Coast.
Over 75 people participated in the event across the weekend commencing with 28 startup ideas pitched on Friday evening. Eight startup teams formed around the best ideas voted by popular choice, with these teams taking the startup ideas from concept to launch-ready, with several of the teams actually launching on Sunday and generating revenue immediately.
Winner of this latest Startup Weekend Gold Coast event was the team from Amble.co who in a single weekend, created a fully functioning beta-release app which scrapes freely available information from the web and connects it with Google Maps to create short walking tours defined by the user’s interest inputs.
The team won a range of prizes including mentoring, legal consulting and private meetings with local investors to help them scale and grow their new startup business.
Event organiser, Greg Burnett said: “This latest event attracted several school-age Entrepreneurs, with equal runners-up being the team from SketchEzy, founded by 10 year old Rhys Burnett, and Team Jogga-Dog, founded by 12 year old Kerenza Edwards”.
“The great benefit of Startup Weekend is that it involves experiential learning, no talk and all action” said Mr. Burnett.
